Hey There! My name is Jack Justus and I'm a designer for concert/theatre/live events.

I specialize in lighting and scenic, but am always learning and open to trying new things.

I'm based out of Southern California & Boston.

With that out of the way, I'd love to tell you a bit about myself. I started my journey with design back at the start of high school, when I got to shadow my school's lighting designer for a production of Mamma Mia! It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the combination of art, tech, and storytelling.

The fantastic experience I had with that show quickly spiraled into learning everything I could about ETC Eos. I also started getting involved at a church nearby, learning GrandMA2 for a more concert style atmosphere. I really enjoyed the contrast of these two environments. At school, my goal was to support the actors in telling a story to make the audience feel emotion and ask questions. At church, I would design lights which supported the emotions of the music, to make the audience feel emotion. Both felt great, and taking a step back these two environments really weren't that different from each other.

Skip ahead a few years, and I've gotten to design an Iranian Rock Concert at Saban Theatre in LA, as well as an Easter service at one of the largest churches in Indiana (shown above). I love programming on GrandMA3, previs on Depence/Capture, and love designing collaboratively. All of that said, nothing is more important than the people who have given me these incredible opportunities. (thank you!)

My lighting world has definitely slowed down since I've moved to college and I started spending time focusing on my engineering coursework and extracurriculars (such as the Terrier Ride Engineering Club -- check out that page!).

Nonetheless, I'm confident that the show business is still inside me, and I will always make time for the next opportunity. Long term, I'm looking to merge this passion for entertainment and engineering, most likely in the world of themed entertainment at amusement parks.
